Dining at The Algonquin Hotel

Everything happens in one room. The Blue Bar Restaurant and Lounge runs from the bar itself through the lobby lounge to the Round Table, all under the same roof and the same kitchen. Breakfast, all day dining and cocktails, seven days a week, in the room where Broadway has been drinking since 1933 and the Vicious Circle held court for a decade before that.

The Blue Bar Restaurant and Lounge

Open since the demise of Prohibition in 1933, with Al Hirschfeld’s artwork on the walls and some of the most experienced bartenders in town behind the bar. The restored lobby lounge extends the room in deep jewel tones and Edwardian furniture. Ask about the $10,000 martini.

About the Round Table

The Round Table

At the centre of the room sits the table the Vicious Circle gathered around every day from 1919 to 1929. Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, Alexander Woollcott and the rest, lunching and sharpening their knives on each other. The table is part of the Blue Bar Restaurant and Lounge, and the area around it can be reserved privately for receptions, dinners, book launches and celebrations of up to 200.
